2017 NCAA Tourney Picks

Another bracket to make fun of.

I have Villanova beating four seeded Purdue in the title game. Arizona and UCLA breaking the Pac-12 streak of not making it to the Final Four.

A few upsets to, with Winthrop beating Butler and Middle Tennessee going to the Sweet Sixteen. UNC-Wilmington takes down Virginia and Nevada upsets Iowa State.

Photos from the stands: EKU at Ball State

Ball State defenders loved the ample chances for interceptions in this game.

Had the pleasure of meeting up with a few college friends this week to see my alma mater take on FCS Eastern Kentucky, my mom’s alma mater. So this game had family rivalry.

Both teams entered 1-1 and many thought the Colonels of EKU could make a game out of it. Shockingly, Eastern’s offense played worse at Ball State than it did at Purdue two weeks prior. Starting QB Bennie Coney was pulled with a 1 for 4 stat line of one yard and two interceptions. Something fans in the stands could have duplicated.

Maty Mauk, a transfer from Missouri, played better but was far from good. His best stats came in the fourth quarter in garbage time.

Eastern Kentucky committed 128 yards in penalties including a running into the punter that extended a Ball State drive that led to a touchdown. The Colonels practically blew themselves out.

Ball State won easily but the contest was more about how inept Eastern Kentucky was. The Cards were able to spread the ball around to three different receivers that had six receptions each. The defense does deserve credit for holding EKU to just three yards rushing. It helps though when you know a team can’t pass.

The best part of the day was Eastern Kentucky trying to fire themselves up on the sideline with a huddle after the third quarter. Problem is they were down 34-0. Cardinals would win 41-14.

Ball State did a great job of protecting QB Riley Neal.

EKU couldn't run the ball at all. Punting from their own 10 yard line occurred more than once.

EKU covered signals with these flags I think to prevent people from stealing them in the press box.

Another bracket to make fun of

2016 bracket attemptIt’s been a long time…

But the madness is here and I need to get my upsets out so I can hopefully take credit for them later.

I think every 11 seed can beat its 6 seed foe, watch that come back to hurt me. Wichita State and Arkansas-Little Rock are my Cinderellas. Both can turn people over and defend, that means it will just take some timely shooting to carry them through the Sweet 16.

Speaking of turning people over and defending, that’s why Kansas, Texas A&M, West Virginia and Michigan State are in my Final Four.

Now watch none of those teams make it in the next 2 weeks. That’s March Madness.

Last Saturday I had the chance to check out UIndy football against Quincy in Great Lakes Valley Conference action. UIndy defeated the Hawks 26-20 on a chilly night. The Greyhounds are looking good in the conference.

Here are photos and video from the game I shot for the Southsider Voice.

Week 5 viewing guide

Week 5 guide

With conference play in full swing Saturday’s slate of games are loaded all day for the first weekend of October. Texas Tech at Baylor is a sleeper to watch as we all know Tech can score and should have defeated TCU last weekend.

The SEC have important games as even Alabama could be eliminated from the playoff with its second SEC loss. Georgia will try to do exactly that.

Notre Dame at Clemson is the primetime game as both teams are trying to prove themselves as elite. A Notre Dame win will put the Irish in the driver seat for a playoff spot.
